I am a figurative painter.
I have always been a figurative painter never interested in pure abstraction or landscape as subjects for my work.
The figure acts for me as a creative spirit that reflects emotional states or narratives about life’s journeys.
The figure tells a story, capturing pure personal expression.
The figure is usually left wondering and is usually alone.
Deliberately stylised to allow the viewer to perceive their own image and vision and wonderment as to what is being felt
They all have their own persona, as if they speak to us visually.
Many are looking upwards and beyond to find an inner peace and
stillness of spirit.
The figure/ figures are set mindfully against an array of differing surfaces of underpainting to variations from rubbing surfaces back, to various glazes and washes, that combine aspects of both drawing and painting.
The technique l use hopefully creates a sort of power of lightness over darkness almost a colourful chiaroscuro effect.
It is my goal to create expressive paint application that is highly emotive, no fear to apply and no fear to play.
The surface is about the creation of tension between colour and tone with an extreme emphasis on blended beauty.
Each work is designed so that the figure stands as a metaphor for our psychological states of mind.
Whatever, these figures always surrounds themselves with gestural brushstrokes that emit my artistic heart and soul and it is my aim as the artist for the viewer to connect way beyond the surface and into the heart of the work.
